Eleanor "El" Burkett (née Eichorn), 72, of St. Augustine, Florida, passed away peacefully after battling a second round of cancer on February 19, 2026. Born on June 26, 1953, in Audubon, New Jersey, El lived a life filled with love, laughter, and cherished memories.
El is survived by her husband of 45 years, Russell "Rusty" Burkett; her beloved daughter, Dena Wardyga (Steve); and her two adored grandsons, Jaxon and Colton. Known affectionately as "Lolly" to her grandsons, she embraced this role with pride and joy. She often delighted them with hidden candies and loved to share the playful phrase, “I am Lolly and my husband is Pop—get it? Lolly Pop.” Her grandsons were the light of her life, and she created countless special moments with them that will be forever cherished.
El was the second youngest of eight siblings and is predeceased by her brothers John, Ron, and Billy, as well as her sister Jean. She is survived by her other siblings, Betty Voll, Bobby Eichorn, and Jimmy Eichorn.
El worked at a donut shop, Campbell Soup and for an insurance agency before she joined Rusty at John's Body Shop as the secretary for eight years. She married Rusty in 1980 and 5 years later, had their only daughter. After the birth of Dena, El chose to dedicate herself fully at home and helping with the book keeping for the shop.
A lover of all things sparkly, El had a passion for glitter, sequins, and rhinestones. She also enjoyed yard sales and never missed an opportunity to find a hidden treasure. Summers were spent in Ocean City, New Jersey—a place that held a special spot in her heart—where she could often be found lounging on the beach or cleaning houses with Dena. She also enjoyed bowling, playing bingo, trips to the casinos and seeing a good show/musical.
El’s warmth and vibrant spirit will be deeply missed by those who knew and loved her. A Visitation will be held on March 21, 2026, from 09:00 AM to 11:00 AM at St Joseph Worker Church (St Vincent Pallotti)
901 Hopkins Rd Haddon Township, NJ . Funeral Mass to follow at 11am. To honor Eleanor, please dress in sparkle (rhinestone/sequin) attire for the services.
