On May 31, 2026, Elizabeth Loretta Mayers “Betty” passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by her family. Betty was the second oldest of seven children to John and Dorothy Connors. Born and raised in Girardville, Pennsylvania, Betty moved to Audubon, New Jersey, upon graduating high school. She worked at Wanamaker’s in Philadelphia before joining Allstate Insurance. In 1956, she married the love of her life, Doc, and settled into the home that they shared for over sixty years. After seven years, they welcomed their cherished daughter, Patti, and Betty left the workforce to stay home and raise her.
She lived a long and beautiful life filled with devotion to her family, especially her grandchildren, whom she adored. She had an enduring generosity of spirit that will never be forgotten. Known fondly to almost everyone as “Aunt Betty”, she spent her life putting others before herself. Whether it be family, neighbors, neighbors’ kids, or grandkids, she treated everyone with the same warmth and kindness. To know Aunt Betty was to feel cared for, comforted, and deeply loved. She had a rare gift for making people feel special, welcomed, and important, never asking for anything in return. Her kindness touched countless lives. While our hearts are broken by her loss, we are forever grateful for the love, compassion, and beautiful example that she gave us all. There will never be another Aunt Betty, and she will be missed beyond words.
Betty was predeceased by her beloved husband, Howard W. Mayers, Jr., “Doc”, her father, John, her mother, Dorothy, and brothers Tom, Jackie, Jerry, and Jimmy. She is lovingly survived by her daughter, Patricia, “Patti”, and her husband, Nick, grandson, Michael, and granddaughter, Sabrina, and her husband, Ryan. She is also survived by her loving
sisters, Loretta and Catherine, with whom she was very close, as well as many nieces and nephews whom she adored.
Family and friends are invited to gather for her visitation at 10:00 a.m., followed by a mass at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 1st, at St. Vincent Pallotti Church (St. Joseph the Worker Parish), 901 Hopkins Road A, Haddonfield, NJ 08033. Interment will be held privately at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Homeward Bound Pet Adoption Center. https://homewardboundnj.org
